Hello -

I'd just like to thank each and everyone of you who helped me build my first
computer. It all went well but it was definitely a challenge and I learned
a lot from it, so thanks again! I've installed all MS updates and pertinent
programs (such as NAV, firewall, Ad-aware, Spybot, etc). However, I am
having a small problem with Spybot Search and Destroy - it freezes during
the scans. I have not be able to do a full system scan - even with the
firewall and antivirus disable and not even in Safe Mode. It freezes during
different files and then I get the "not responding" message. Ad-aware works
fine - scanned entire system with no problem. Does anyone know what could
be causing this or anyone run into the same problem? Are there any other
alternatives?

Also I would like to be able to bypass the post screen at bootup? Are there
any programs or tweaks to accomplish this? I have gone into the system BIOS
and there's not an option to do it and this was also verified by the
manufacturer of the motherboard, which is a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000Pro-G.

I would appreciate any assistance regarding my questions. Thanks in
advance.

System info:
WinXP Prof w/SP1 (all updates)
250gb hd
3.0ghz w/512 mb ram
NAV 2005
NPF 2003
Ad-aware and Spybot

Spybot appears to freeze on my main computer at a particular spot. If I
leave it alone for about 30-60 seconds it continues. Try it.

Did you download the latest version and then update SpyBot ?

TweakUI will let you alter the splash screen, also there is
a setting in the BIOS for "quiet" so it doesn't show the
very useful dialogues during booting.

Hi Jim,

I updated Spybot to the latest version which is a beta version and scan ran
just fine.

I have TweakUI (the version in Powertoys for WinXP) and I don't see an
option for disabling the splash screen. I looked through each category and
did not find it. As for the BIOS suggestion, there is no "quiet" setting.
I called Gigabyte and they said there's no option for a quiet boot. I
recall seeing a program somewhere that allowed you to do that but I can't
remember when or where that is.

You can't bypass POST screen - that's the core tests/configuration run from
on-board BIOS. It sets up the basics, ready to run the higher-level OS.
Re Spybot prob - try removing it and re-installing. If that doesn't solve
the problem, you'll probably need to go the Spybot forum, (that's a
software prob, this is "hardware" ng). Here's the link
http://www.spybot.info/en/support/index.html

Yes there are other progs (google for them?) but Spybot is good - just make
sure you have the latest, not the beta (info of probs with that in Spybot
forum).

Well done, successfully building yr new pc!

Sincerely, Len
