Thanks for the news. This is a great program and version 7 is my favorite
application for
converting & printing in PDF. Would appreciate being informed the
difference between the two downloads ("GNU Ghostscript" and "AFPL
Ghostscript"). We never had to make this choice before, and aren't sure
which we should upgrade to. Also, should patch 02 be downloaded and
installed too (what does it do)?

Thank you
Regards...

Q: What is the difference between the AFPL and the Ghostscript
version of PDFCreator?

A: The main difference is the Ghostscript version used. The AFPL
version is newer than the GPL version, but the license is more
restrictive. If you just want to use PDFCreator, then both versions
are fine and the AFPL should be prefered, as it is far better. If
you need an aspect of the license, that is not covered by the AFPL
but by the GPL, then you should download the GPL version.

Q: What file should I download?

A: PDFCreator requires Ghostscript. There are 2 different Setups for
the two versions of Ghostscript.

PDFCreator-0_8_1_AFPLGhostscript.exe
This Setup contains AFPL-Ghostscript and is the recommended version.
The AFPL version is more recent than the GPL version.
/**
Also, should patch 02 be
downloaded and installed too (what does it do)?

No. AFAIK there is no patch for PDFCreator 0.8.1 RC5, patch 02
patches to vers 0.8.0 only.

I don't like it at all. It makes huge pdf's, as does Open Office btw.
Tomahawk, on the other hand, generates small pdf's.

The size of a PDF is largely determined by how the program that created
it is configured, e.g., font embedding/subsetting (or not), image
compression and/or resolution (if any images are in the source doc).

PDF programs typically can make large PDFs for high-quality printing, or
tiny PDFs for viewing on the web. Many PDF files can be reduced in size,
if you know what to do.
