Update Manager problem

I get the following fault
"The programme was unable to connect to the update server. Please check
your network connection"
What is this and how do I correct it

Since sending the last message I have discovered that it is connected to
Sonic recording software

I deleted all my start-up files and the message has disappeared. Will
restore what I require one by one to find which one is causing it
Just for information.
