install sp2 on my pc with out sp2 freezing up on first reboot i have a 5
month old pc with prescott based processor

Hi,

If your processor and BIOS match that described in the article, the update
will provide you a means of installing SP2 without the crashing caused by
systems with out-of-date microcode. Another solution is to update your
motherboard BIOS.

Check it here :-http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=885626
Check points:-
"This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
Your computer uses an Intel Pentium 4 or Intel Celeron D processor that
is based on Prescott C-0 processor stepping.
Your computer has a BIOS version that is out of specification.

Note A BIOS version that is out of specification does not provide
support for the processor that is installed on your computer."

So you now cross check it with your system spec.
