For *speed* in finding any file on HD's(instant) once the IFNS
database is updated:
=From their Help File:
[ Rescan ] - use this button to scan your files and folders and update
database."

This is my favorite file-search program as a zero-bloat
workhorse(460kb) with emphasis on speed of retrieval and is a nice
complement to Agent Ransack but not a replacement, imo..

Instant File Name Search - fast file searching

Instant File Name Search (IFNS) is an easy to use search tool that
allows you to find files on your computer instantly. After an initial
scan, it maintains an index of all the files on your computer or LAN
and and allows you to search them by name, partial name or wildcards.
It offers additional support for Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT),
database management with an option to maintain multiple database
files. You can choose to exclude or include selected files, folders or
extensions to further speed up the search and reduce the size of the
database. The index needs to be kept updated, and the program can do
it automatically every time it starts."

What's New (v1.4 - January, 2006):
Improved database management.
Improved search speed.
Many small improvements.

Main features:
Instant search of files by name or wildcards
Support of Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT)
Search in various directories or LAN resources
Easy to use, Explorer like user interface
Database management (you can create several databases)
Taskbar icon and hot keys for quick access
IFNS requires Win95/98/ME or WinNT/2000/XP."
---

The speed at scanning/rescanning HD files to cache in the IFNS
database has increased 10X from the previous versions, so there's no
'waiting around' for (re)scanning to finish before one can use the
program. Plus, IFNS now opens files like A/Ransack, Copernic, etc,
where, before, in previous builds, it could only find the files, not
open them. I call that a *vast* improvement. IFNS has my freeware
stamp of approval.

the problem with this is that if your files contantly change then the
databases are not updated....
