update fields

Daniel Rimmelzwaan

I have a field reference on my title page referring to the title field in
the properties. I also have this field reference in my header. Now when I
change the title in the properties, I have to do a field update (F9) both on
the title page and in the header. selecting all text and then F9-ing does
not update the field in the header. It's getting a little annoying that I
have to click the field, F9, go to the first page with a header, doubleclick
the header, click in the field, F9, etc.

Does anybody know a simple one-or-few-click way to update all fields in the
entire document?

Thanks,
Daniel

Ctrl-A, F9, Print Preview (button)

The first two get any fields in the body of your document. The Print Preview
should update those in the header (which should update anyway if you simply
print).

Otherwise you need a somewhat complex macro.

Charles has given you a solution regarding fields, but I will make another
suggestion. If the only reason you're using the Title property is to put it
on the title page and in the header, consider the alternative of putting the
title on the title page in Title style and then using a { STYLEREF Title }
field in the header to pick up this text. As you change the text in Title
style, the StyleRef field will update.

Thank you Charles, I didn't know that print preview did that. I also took
Suzanne's tip and inserted a styleref into my header. Now when I do ctrl-A
and F9 (I still have to do that because I keep the title in the properties),
it also updates the header.

Daniel.
