So far I like this program.

Is there a way to set the image resolution for example to 300 DPI?

Hello,
Is there a way to set the image resolution for example to 300 DPI?

where do you need this for? On screen a pixel is a pixel. Usually
the operating system has some DPI equivalent to some kind of emulate
the monitor rendering, Windows has in advanced display settings
with font size, regularly 96 DPI. So why change this for screen
shots? You may need to resample image size. Some image file
types like GIF don't even support DPI.

I don't think so, I can't find any option for that.

Send him a message, and ask him for that option
so maybe he adds it in the next version.
I sent a message regarding saving a file in the jpeg format. Started with a
1800 KB file--IrfanView saves it to about 500K and FastStone about 1600 KB.
Haven't heard back yet. Smalleer size does have it's advantages.

JPEG is a lossy format and you sure can see the difference
between that two files. Also IrfanView offers to change
compression, so you only used the default setting I guess. You
can choose compression in FastStone also, just click "Advanced"
in the file save dialog. It is even that great that you can see
before and after compression in that dialog. This explains JPEG
quality loss much better than words ;-)

Thanks for the comment. I took a look at IrfanView and did find the place
to alter the compression. --Have looked at that dialog box more times then I
can count. It's the age old problem of looking but never seeing. Must be
my eyes but changing the compression of a file from about 500KB to about
1500KB didn't seem to make that much of a noticeable difference unless the
picture was blown up.
