I tried to update for Windows XP Service Pack 1 Express
and it failed in the middle. Later I tried to do automatic
updating and successfully did:
Update for Windows XP Service Pack 1 (KB810243)
However I keep getting the message:

"Files that are required have been replaced by
unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability,
Windows must restore the orginal versions of these files.
Insert your Windows XP professional Service Pack 1 CD now."

However I don't have a CD. Everything was done from the
download via the web. I tried accessing the System Restore
wwizard but for some reason when I try to access it
through the help and support section under
FIX A PROBLEM>>ACCESSING SYSTEM RESTORE,
the system just stalls and does not bring up any page or
wizard. I do have System Restore turned on.
What can I do?
Thank you.

Wills: I have had this before. You can force it thru by
being obnoxious and slamming every popup and quickly
geeting to shut-off or go on a non-ending journey. Have
gone thru 6 crashes and lost everything. But, hang in,
knock it out, reboot and to amazement, it will be there.
Go to add/remove and see if it is installed.

This is much needed whereas there is large data on SP1.
Only in dire circumstance do you want to do Destructive
Recovery. I will venture a guess as a dial-up with slow
and you got impatient. My last full reload of SP1 took 12
hours. And, you know. you can multi-task and keep it in
the background for days, GOOD LUCK, but you will have
many downloads that will slow you down for weeks as
adhustments to SP1. Let's all hope SP3 or equivalent
comes soon.

Sounds like it is asking for your installation media; i.e., the CD that was
used to actually install Windows XP so it can get the files from there.
It's not a CD containing the service pack that it wants. It wants the
Windows XP installation media CD. Have you tried inserting the CD that was
used to install Windows XP when this prompt appears?
