I'm seeing your reply without the message that it replies to--so I'm not
sure what you are looking for resolution to.

If it is a problem relating to updates, the first thing to try is Windows
Update, express scan, and apply all offered updates.

If that doesn't (or hasn't!) done the job, next is the resolution steps in
this KB article:

Bill,

The Express update worked for me. We just recently went to WSUS and I'm
thinking therein lies my problem with Defender updates. Thanks.

Windows Defender is designed to update via WSUS natively. There are about
three steps the WSUS admin needs to take to make definitions
available--here's the best post I've seen about them:
----
If your windows update is pointing to your local WSUS, then you must include
the Windows Defender in synchronization setting.
In Products selection, please include Windows Defender
In Update classifications, please include Definition Updates

You must synchronize the server and approve the definition for clients to
get the latest definition.

Cheong

Hi Bill-
Very good info. Is it possible to get defender to work with SUS, instead of
WSUS?If yes, can you provide the steps. We are planning to upgrade to WSUS
but haven't done it yet.

I'm afraid it isn't.

I don't know if there are any tricks that might enable you to do this with
some manual work on the part of the admin--the SUS support group might be
able to handle that.

Microsoft chose to go with the platform that will still have support life
after the likely release of the product.

Lots of useful info here:

And, the groups:

Steve,

I tried what you suggested, but I get the same message. Any other suggestions?

Can the next person who runs into this issue try:

Open the command prompt

Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\ folder

Execute the following command: msiexec /x AS_Sigs.msi

Then Check for updates

I have the same issue except the error code I get back is 0x8024002b.

I've checked the event log and there's nothing relevant there.

Microsoft, can you change your error reporting to be more descriptive
(without error codes) and perhaps write an event in the event log with the
specific error code. Error codes such as 0x8024002b mean nothing to me...

Since then, Steve has written a comprehensive definition update

I just loaded Windows Defender. It said that it hasn't been updated
in
19
days. When I click on the check for updates it returns an error
0x8024400a
that it was unable to complete the update. How can I correct this ?
