Don't forget to put the correct Serial Number - Note that the Serial
Number is hardware dependent. If you change your PC Hardware you'll
probably need a new key. In that case, just repeat the register process.

Registerware of the worst kind.

What do you dislike: the software itself, or the register scheme?

If not for the 'References:' header, most (99% plus) people would have _no_
idea to who, or what, you are talking about.

I will try to explain it simply (for "simple minds"; anybody you know?).

To whom were you replying, when I replied to you (above)?

Now remember; my above-question is pointed towards "simple" mind(s).

Never you ("Rajalev") mind a reply. I do not need the further aggravation by
parrying the "?'s" of simple souls such as yourself.

1st - You should always quote.

2nd - It's evident what i was criticizing. If you only have read it.

Upon further review... I see that *maybe* the registration is not
necessary in order to run the program.

<quote from "http://d2mp.tripod.com/id5.html">
Registration is free.
Then, what are the beneficts?

- For you:
1. The registration button and messages will disappear from D2MP.
2. I will send you an e-mail when a new version is available.

- For me:
I will know how many users I have and if it is worthy continuing to
invest time in D2MP.
</quote>

So why is the registration hardware dependent?

Still, not freeware, and is registerware and nagware. I'm not starting a
campaign against the program or the programmer. My only intention was
and is to provide further information about the program and the
conditions under which it's offered.
Registration, especially hardware dependent registration, is a concern
to us freeware adopters. The program can become
shareware/commercialware/abandonware (ie the programmer stops
development) and the users lose their ability to run it.

I haven't tried the program itself.

Why don't the author don't submit the program to some freeware
directories/portals so that he can measure the true popularity of his
program. Or he should search for other forms of feedback, like forums or
newsgroups (for example this one "alt.comp.freeware or
alt.comp.freeware.discussion).

I see that he is looking for feedback.

<quote from "http://d2mp.tripod.com/id8.html">
I would apreciate any additional ideas from the users so I have a motif
to continue d2mp.

ok. thank's for the answer.
By the way, I've tested the program and I agree with you regarding the
nagging registration scheme.
I've registered myself and in the "comments" box suggested the end of
the registration - let's see what the author does.

D2mp author has already answered-me and he published a statement on his
web site, regarding the registration scheme (it seems we were not the
first ones to question him on this). The following lines came from
<<http://d2mp.tripod.com/id9.html>>:

Many users had asked-me several questions regarding registration.

1. Why registration?
a)Because I like to know who and how many are using D2MP.
If you are enough I will continue to publish D2MP. If not I will stop
publishing it.
b)You will automatically be informed when new versions came out.

2. The Serial Number is Hardware Dependent. Why ?
Because it's the only way I've found to be informed of how many
installations of d2mp exists.

3. Then, You will know what hardware and software I have in my machine.
NO WAY!
One thing I respect is privacy!
The SN is generated from the Serial numbers, version ID and
manufacturer Id of some of the hardware of your machine.
Then, this information is joined together and encrypted with a "one way
formula" that I have no way to go back - this means I only now your SN,
but I CAN NOT KNOW what hardware made this SN number.
I respect your privacy!

4. If, someday, you stop publishing D2MP, I will not be capable of
using it anymore.
WRONG!
First, At this moment, I do not pretend to stop supporting D2MP.
And even if it happens my e-mail will still be available and you still
can use D2MP.
The next version of D2MP WILL NOT have the nagging registration screen.
Only the registration button and the "unregistered version" text in the
start of the log. So, even unregistered it will work without
limitations or nagging screens.

5.Won't it be possible to terminate the registration?
Yes. Probably. But I will need someway to know, at least, the number of
downloads and when.
My question: How ?
