Update computer name without restart?

Hi,

Is there a possible way to change computer name,
stop/restart some services and have the computer name
updated without a full reboot?

I want to take a computer out of domain into a workgroup,
change computer name and add it back in without a
restart... is this even possible?

I know it is six years later, but seeing as it still hasn't been
answered--is there a way to do as the questioner asked, and if so--how?
And may I add (although this is the XP )--how can one do this in Vista
as well?
