Anyone knows how to update BIOS?
Do I put the floppy disk with the ROM file when I restart the machine?

Lots of people here do.

And a good percentage of them probably used Google to find out how.

More likely most people hunt high and low for the instruction manual and
learn how to update the bios from it.

The vendor had released the latest BIOS. I would think if fixes something
and make compatible to latest OS.
Why does the vendor releases latest BIOS?

G'day Alan,

When you download the BIOS update it should come with a ReadMe or other
instructions of what to do. If not, it's usually listed on the manufacturers
site near the download

The instructions will be something like:

Copy to flash utility & the BIOS update onto a floppy disk
Restart with floppy in the drive
Select the BIOS update from the list (if not automatically found)
Leave to flash

Thanks.
I'll try it then.

Next time, please port your question to the correct newsgroup.

This is a Windows XP NG and your question has nothing to do with this NG.

Be aware that an unsuccessful bios update can make your machine fail to
boot at all. BIOS is kept in surface mount flash memory chips on your
motherboard. If the BIOS code is damaged, or mangled by an unsucessful
update attempt, your mother board may not boot again. The code that
reads Windows in from hardisk is in BIOS. Recovery from this boo-boo is
difficult to impossible. The flash memory chips are nearly impossible
to remove and replace. Reprograming the flash chips in place is a black
art known to very few.
How bad do you need to update BIOS? Was it my machine I'd only
update BIOS to fix some impossible to live with bug.

Certainly. One do so by very carefully following the instructions
provided by the motherboard manufacturer. Each would be different.

Don't know. Perhaps. What do the instructions provided by the
motherboard manufacturer say to do?

Probably.

Possibly. What reason was given by the vendor? This will have been
spelled out in the release notes. Does the stated reason apply to you?

Why does the vendor releases latest BIOS?

Ususally to fix a specific problem, or set of problems, only. Are you
experiencing that specific problem? If not, there's no reason for you
to update your BIOS, particularly when your unclear as to how to do so.

Follow you manufacturer's instructions.

Why do you think you need to upgrade your BIOS?

Certainly don't do it just because it's X years old and there are
upgrades available. Although a BIOS upgrade normally goes well, it is
not without danger. If something goes wrong while the upgrade is an
progress (for example, a lapse in power) you can be left with no BIOS
at all, and an unbootable computer.

Do a BIOS upgrade if you need to--because you are having a problem
that the new version is known to fix--not just because one is
available.

May range for fix for something your PC is using OR not using. If the
latter, you're spinning your wheels. If that's the case, its not an upgrade
regarding your circumstance.

Also, may be adding options in the bios setup, and as consequence, removing
other options. Can be detrimental in some circumstances. If so, not an
upgrade.

Why does the vendor releases latest BIOS?

Often just to address an issue with a specific motherboard.
