Unzip alternative

I've been using zipgenius with no problems until today. I was unzipping
many graphics files with similar sounding names. Consistently zipgenius
would report halfway through the folder that the files already existed and
the conversion either needed to be cancelled or the file replaced. I ended
up resorting to an old winzip program I still had on my harddrive to unzip
the files. I imagine that winzip reads more letters in the file name than
zipgenius.
Are there any freeware programs with the simplicity of zipgenius that might
be comparable to winzip?

Get the last freeware v of Power Archiver at
http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32_freeware.html
It closely resembles Winzip.

Sounds like you forgot to restore any paths.

As Matteo Riso (ZipGenius' developer) has said the best approach in
your case is to report your problem with him and wait for a solution.

If you still want to try another app, my favorite one is 7-Zip:
<http://www.7-zip.org/>

plus there are a few more listed in the Pricelessware List:
<http://www.pricelessware.org/2003/PL2003FILEUTILITIES.htm
#Archives-Zip-Unzip>

and NoNags:
<http://www.nonags.com/nonags/ziputil.html>

Hope this helps

Are you sure you selected "use full pathnames" or similar, when you
extracted all the files? I could be wrong, but this is a common source
of such a problem. Most archivers have the pathnames obscured when you
view the archive contents, so it's not obvious that there's a directory
tree structure associated with the archive. Check whether there *are* in
fact duplicate filenames in the archive, then have a look at the
extended path information.

I've been using Enzip for several years, first with win98 and now with
XP.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure about pathfiles- all the files I
wanted to unzip were in one folder and I wanted them all unzipped in a
second folder. Winzip had no problem with this. I will send the
information on since I really like the simplicity of zipgenius.
