Unwanted Drive A access

I am running an ancient but operable IBM ThinkPad 380XD under Windows 2000
Pro (5.0.2195 with SP4 Build 2195)

Whenever I restart the computer, and it runs userinit.exe and dw15.exe as
part of the startup routine, the programs attempt to access Drive A (the
floppy drive). Since there is no disk in the floppy drive, the startup
routine waits with the popup "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a
disk into drive A:" I can cancel and continue but I can't figure out why
these programs are trying to access the floppy drive and how to stop them
doing so. I'm guessing there is some sort of default drive option in Windows
but I have no idea how to change it.

TIA
Tim

It hasn't been a big deal as I don't shut down that often but since I last
updated Adobe Acrobat Reader, AcroRd32.exe is doing the same thing.

I suggest that you go into BIOS and disable drive A: being a floppie drive -
that will stop that trouble. If you make a mess of it you can hit default and be
back to normal again - but do try it carefully - if you can teach Java then you
must have a smattering of knowledge about BIOS - if not hit DEL or F2 as the
computer starts up - that will get you there - gollow instructions.

What's dw15.exe? How does it get invoked? Does the problem
persist if you disable it?

Thanks Borge:

I can avoid the problem by inserting a blank, formatted disk after the
inital boot routine but I was hoping to figure out what was causing userinit
to think it needed to access the floppy drive. I'd rather not disable the
floppy drive if I don't have to (although in this era of flash drives, I
seldom use a floppy disk any more).

dw15.exe is part of the Microsoft error reporting stuff... I just
uninstalled it.
