I have a windows 2000 server that had a sony AIT tape drive in it. My customer decided that he wanted a DLT drive so the sony drive was removed and a HP DLT drive was installed, configured and is working well. The problem is that the server take almost twenty minutes to get to the desk top when it is rebooted because it is still trying to load the sony driver. My question is how do I uninstall the sony driver or stop it from loading the device driver. Here is the name and path of the driver. "sonysdx-VRTS c:\winnt\system32\drivers\sonysdx.sys" I did not want to just delete or rename the driver, what should I do

Presumably you have a "Sony" service. Disabling this service via the Control
Panel / Administrative Tools should fix the problem.

You can always try to uninstall the driver for the SONY thing by going to the Device Manager Right-click My Computer | Properties | Hardware | Device Manager... | View | Show hidden devices | then search around in there for the driver you want to uninstall (Right-click selection).

This will probably not work unless devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
is set to 1 in the current environment. See
