Unwanted character on screen (Word 2003 Edition)

I had a Word document open and inadvertantly hit a wrong key (I don't know
which one) and now I have an unwanted "pilcrow sign" on every document that's
opened. It's also on the blank screen when I begin a new document. Please
help me get rid of it!

You can either click on the pilcrow on your toolbar or Tools | Options |
General | Formatting Marks | and deselect Paragraphs.

You press CTRL + SHIFT + 8. If you do it again, it will toggle off.

With all due respect, the shortcut key is Ctrl+* - and only Ctrl+Shift+8 on
keyboards which have the asterisk as Shift+8 (generally English keyboards)

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm for reasons why
you might sometimes want to have nonprinting characters displayed, along
with several methods of toggling them on and off.

Thanks for your help. As you probably figured out I'm very new to computers.
Just learning.
