Hi Vade,
You could try to determine the cause of the on-demand installation by opening Event
Viewer (eventvwr.msc), looking in the Application Log for Source: MsiInstaller -
Warning Messages Event numbers 1001 and 1004, double-clicking the events and reading
the Description.
And if you need more details, the Group Policy snap-in provides built-in features for
setting Windows Installer Logging. For more information, run gpedit.msc and read the
text on the Explain tab of the following Policy:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Installer:
Logging
You may also want to try posting to one of the many Office forums.

: When I launch Word 2002 my Windows 2000 calls Windows
: Installer and starts searching for my installation disk.
: I have to cancel Installer by clicking "Cancel" in the
: Preparing To Install dialogue box. Once I do that,
: Winword.EXE launches and runs normally. This annoyance
: happens on every launch.
