Unvisited links appear "purple"

If you surf to:
http://www.wakinglands.com/htm_files/the_races_page.htm
And click on any one of the headings, from "dwarves"
to "humans", you will see a bunch of headings to the right
that already appear purple (as if visited).

I have cleared my histories repeatedly, and have even
deleted the history folder using an administration
account, but these links still appear purple to me.

What is Windows XP Pro (my operating system) doing that
makes these links appear purple, and how can I get them to
appear blue (as of unvisited)?

Thanks.
