I have 4 computers on a home LAN, one is wireless and the other three
are wired. My gateway computer is set to 192.168.0.1 (all others are
assigned this IP address as default gateway) because I have dialup and
want the other computers to access the Internet via ICS which they do
for the most part.
The wireless router is set to 192.168.0.199 (DHCP disabled) because I
had to convert it into a switch. All computers are configured to obtain
IP addresses automatically with DHCP enabled on all and file and printer
sharing is enabled as well. Workgroup is the same and all computers have
unique names. It works fairly well for the most part except for one one
small anomaly. Sometimes when I ping the wireless router from another on
the wired LAN I lose 25-50% packets.
When I power up the laptop and go into the OS (I have WinXP Home on the
laptop and Pro on the others) It says the network is connected but I
cannot connect to any of the computers on the network nor can I surf the
Internet. This only happens occasionally and is rectified by physically
disconnecting the power to the wireless router momentarily, reconnecting
the power then everything returns to normal in that I can communicate
with all computers.
Methinks I have an incorrect setting on the router or somewhere else.
