Unusual request: Anybody got bad 80GB hard drives to sell or give away?

Dave

I'm doing kind of an art project (don't ask). Need some cheap 80GB hard
drives. Would be willing to pay a few bucks a piece (unless you want to
give them away, ha ha), plus reasonable shipping costs. If you've got
drives you've pulled for bad sectors or just DEAD for whatever reason, that
would be perfect. As long as they are 80GB, and the label (upper side) is
not terribly damaged. I've got a few myself, but need several more. Let me
know if you can help me out. Bonus if they are WD! On hotmail dot com, I
am user junknothankyou

Will check this ng also. Thanks, -Dave

You might also post in the TiVo Usenet group and online forums...the
basic TiVo now uses 80GB drives and it's often better to ditch the
80GB original drive and install a single larger drive, than adding an
additional drive to the TiVo box.

Why not scan the label on one of your drives...
then print them out on some photopaper...
then glue them to whatever drive you can get

He just wants the controller boards. It isn't an art project.

For art, each one wouldn't have to be exactly the same capacity.

They *have* to be 80-gig?
I have so many junk hard drives ....
Normally, for an *art* project, I'd think physical dimensions were more
important than labels.

Ah ... controller boards.
That makes a lot more sense.

No, I don't give a damn about the controller boards. If the controller
boards are missing, that's fine. They just have to look semi-decent from
the top. I suppose I could try someone else's suggestion to scan the labels
and attach them to other drives. Now I just have to figure out how to do
that without degrading the image quality too much. -Dave

Well I'm building kind of a see-through monster-server from yesteryear.
(non functional). I suppose anything in the range of about 60-100GB would
do, but I was hoping to get about 10 or so of the same size (and 80GB
sounded good, as I already had a few dead ones to start with), and
preferably the same brand, though I know that's pushing my luck.

Again, I'm not looking for parts. If I needed parts I could scrounge those
up myself. Severely bad sectors? Great. Dead controller board also? Even
better. -Dave

If you print them on glossy photo paper...they should look very good.
You should be able to get 4 labels per page...maybe more
