Unusual Display Resolution Required

I recently purchased a 7-inch Xenarc widescreen VGA monitor for use in a
car-based PC. The PC is running WindowsXP Pro (all updates applied). The
Xenarc monitor has a native resolution of 800x480, and I'd like to run it at
that resolution. But the WindowsXP display applet doesn't offer this as an
option. (It lists only the "usual" resolutions of 800x600, 1024x768,
1280x1024, and 1600x1200.) I've searched the 'net for a monitor driver for
this Xenarc monitor, but have had no luck. (For those who want to duplicate
this attempt, be aware that the touch screen driver software does not
include the monitor driver that I seem to need.)

The monitor is capable of "squishing" pixels so as to display resolutions
higher than its native resolution -- by dropping lines, I'm guessing. I'm
running the system at 800x600 right now, and the 600 horizontal lines are
"squished" into the monitor's 480 native vertical pixel resolution. (I've
actually tested this monitor all the way up to 1600x1200. Not very good
image quality, but still impressive for such a tiny monitor.)

With the new "widescreen" laptops that are now on the market it would seem
to me that WinXP *must* support the native resolutions these
wide-aspect-ratio displays. But I can't seem to unlock them for my
application.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

- Greg

I don't know if this will help but I had a similiar
situation recently where the standard stuff did not offer
the resolutions I required. I went back to the vendor of
my video card and was able to obtain another driver that
offered the additional resolutions that could load into
the XP environment.
