Unusual Delay in IE6

P

Paul Gilbertson

Folks,

Having problems when directly typing in URLs into Address bar. If I
type http://www.mysite.com all goes smoothly, however, if I type just
www.mysite.com there is upto a 60 second delay before the site comes
up. This is occuring all over the company IE6 and IE6SP1, Windows 2000
SP2,3,4.

Can anyone help, or provide a clue?

Sorry, I don't have the answer, but I am experiencing the
same issue with IE6, Win2000 Server SP4. Randomly I.E.
hangs for a good minute or two.

Greetings Paul, any success with this issue? I too was experiencing the
same issue with my IE 6 brower. I recently was working on another issue and
came across these steps to "repair" your IE installation. So I followed
them and when it was all over, I had been reverted back to IE 5. Not my
planned result, however, I now can type in addresses without the http:// and
there is no delay. I haven't attempted to upgrade to IE 6 again, but I will
soon enough. We will see if the delay is still present after the upgrade.

Please note that if you do these steps you will need your W2K CD and it also
asked me for some files on the SP4 CD. Luckily the files for SP4 were still
on my system in C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386. I tried to find the actual
link to this support article, but I couldn't:

Search for the hidden file, "ie.inf"
Right click, the file, click "Install"
It will prompt for the CD and SP files.

I don't expect you to trust these steps, but thats what I did, for the life
of me I cannot find the support article I read yesterday. I will post back
if my upgrade back to IE6 gives me the same problems. Feel free to email me
off group at: tmkjunk at hotmail dot com

Paul, I proceeded to upgrade my IE to 6 with the latest updates. When I
launch a new browser, the first site I type in as www.yahoo.com , still has
a delay. After that site loads, any subsequent sites pop up quick. No
delay. I am running IE 6.0.2800.1106, Update Version SP1; Q828750
