Unusual Configuration

I recently took delivery of a new PC from Mesh computers which is
working fine.

However, I'm puzzled by the inclusion of a Promise FastTrak 378 RAID
controller to which a single 250 GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA disk
is attached.

Any reason why a supplier should go to the expense of adding a RAID
controller in this case? It didn't appear in the initial spec. for the
system.

Other details are an Asus 8V Deluxe motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64
3500+ CPU.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi, that's normal, you need the controller if the Sata drive is connected to
it, if not you can disable it in the bios. The best controller, and one that
is quicker in use and in bootup times, is the via sata. Overclocking issues
should have been cured in rev 2.0 of that board...

The A8V's have the Promise Fastrack 378 built in to the mobo as well as a
VIA RAID built-in to the K8T800 chipset. Asus provides a "butt load" of ways
to connect drives.

Now I understand! Thank you.
