Unresonsive programs

K

Kent Harker

I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop running Vista Business with 2 GB of memory.
Most of the time when I start almost any program I get a not responding
message. If I wait 10 to 30 seconds the program usually responds but most
programs don't run very fast.

This computer is about 1 year old and it has worked this way since it was
new.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem?

Hi Kent,

More than likely you have malware on the system. Some formal scanning with
updated antivirus and antispyware programming while in safe mode is in
order. Scanning in normal mode won't work as the smarter bugs of today can
a) avoid detection when active and b) restart themselves if disabled.

I was having the same issue on the Lenovo 3000 N200 Using Vista business with
2GB memory. I have updated the BIOS and all Lenovo programs and it is less
frequent.

Thinkvantage Access connections 5.12 and the new Lenovo Systems Toolbox for
Lenovo were two of the most important updates.

I also use SUMo to keep my other software up to date and use power
defragmenter with contig.exe to improve defragmentation.

I believe I read the 3000 also has SATA issues in the BIOS may need to
change the seeting from SATA to IDE on your hard drive. You may want to
either try this or look it up.

Took the Laptop in under warranty to the authorized Lenovo repair in the
area and they could not find what was causing not only the "Not Responsing
Programs", but also intermittent restarts. Paid $115 and all they did was
vacuum/air out my fan (AKA Not under warranty service) and still problem
existed. Researched the issues and did the above solutions and works more
like a champ. Some program delays but not quite as much as before.

P.S. Updated Lenovo System Toolbox will not run if Mozilla Firefox is
installed.
