Unremovable MP3 Files!!!

Abu Mahajii

I downloaded some mp3 music files, and upon downloading them, I scanned
them with Avast before playing them, and then placed them into
different folders. I found that I have some mp3's that upon right
clicking them to scroll down to scan them, it is only a short menu that
is there consisting of (play, open, add to sync list, add to burn list,
add to now playing list, add to playlist, play with media player, open
with, and send to ) and that's it. There is no option for deleting the
files nor scanning them. I have clicked on play, as well as open and
there is no action whatsoever. These same files also can not be moved
by left clicking and dragging into any folder either. I have scanned
my system since downloading the mp3 music files and no viruses show up.
What types of files are these, and how can I rid my system of them.

Highlight a file or files and hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

If you enabled file extensions to show and not be hidden, then mp3 files are
mp3. If you have file extensions hidden, then those mp3 files could be
ANYTHING.

For the life of me, I do not know what Microsoft was thinking when they set
the default in Windows XP to HIDE file extensions.

To show file extensions...
Start | Settings | Control Panel | Folder Options | View tab
Check: Show hidden files and folders |
Click Apply | Click OK

For a variety of reasons you should make certain that your computer always
shows file extensions. Under Windows you can set the system to hide
extensions. This is dangerous as some malicious programs will send
executable files with a double extension in order to try to fool you into
thinking the file is not malicious. For example, if you receive the file
BADPROGRAM.TXT.VBS and have extensions turned off you would only see
BADPROGRAM.TXT and think that the file is a simple text file. If you clicked
on it you would execute a script that could do anything.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.
