Try saving it to the HD first, then open from within Word. If it is a Word
file, it will have a .doc file extension. If you do not have file extensions
displayed, it will have a Word document icon.

It's generally not a good idea (for a variety of reasons) to open any kind
of attachment (aside from .eml attachments) directly but especially a bad
idea for Word documents. Yes, it requires an extra step, but it provides
protection against not only viruses but also the possibility of losing any
editing you may do to the file.
