Unmounting 2-1/4" Square Slides

The only way I have to scan my old 2-1/4" stuff is with my flatbed (Canon
9950F) and while it does deliver decent performance, I've found that it's
vital to unmount any mounted 2-1/4" slides to get the proper focus. Almost
all of the ones I have are Kodak-processed Ektachromes dating from the late
60's until around 1980 (after which everything I have is unmounted).

Unmounting by trying to slit the mount with a (Xacto) knife is at best
awkward and probably somewhat dangerous as well. Is there any better way to
get the slides out of the mounts without damage?

TIA

Believe there are some special tools for the job. Googling it suggests
Wess make one. Caveat emptor, of course.

Wess itself has been out of biz for 5 years or more.
Their successor, BCA Manufacturing, seems to offer a limited assortment
of some "Wess" products. Website very limited, looks like would have to
call them.

Btw, I've unmounted hundreds of 120 cardboard mounts. I just wore cotton
gloves and peeled the non-stick sides off first, then peeled the film
off the stuck side, never any probs.
