6x6 mtd diapos: scanner with holder?

I cut my own plastic holder to fit the single frame adapter for the Kodak
RFS 3570, and was satisfied with the focus and such because the intended
audience will never venture beyond a 24 bit slideshdow on full screen TV.
(B&H and Adorama left me on hold for almost 4! months; but that's another
thread) But now the old boy has slipped its gears and the Kodak pros
tell me I'm SOL, as I expected for this '-way- beyond support cycle'
discontinued model. Dad didn't give up his hand crank TLR Rollei wannabe
until the late 80's so I'm floundering with ~30 years more of individual
MF slides. I even replaced the bulb to light up his old projector, but
much too soft images even for my audience. I took the tranny template for
the Epson 2480 and burned the margins of the 35mm slide slots to accept 2
of the 2¼ Ektachromes, with tolerable frame cropping, but the myopic DOF
is too fussy for too many of these warped paper mounts. So what's next:
which flatbed with adjustable focus? Or another film scanner such as the
RFS 3570, but current production and support, which film holder can accept
the depth of paper mounts and warping film? USB2,SCSI2, Firewire --just
another PCI card, so not a factor. Not that my credit cards have that
much head room, but new or used market of <470USD is worth a mention.

Is there any way you can take the film out of the mounts? I am worried that
they will cause a problem with any scanner. In your price range, the most
popular choices are the Canon 8400 and 9950 or the Epson 4490 or 4990. Be
prepared to have to unmount the film though if the paper mounts are warped
or if the film is not being held flat within the mounts. You will probably
have to create your own mask/template out of black cardstock to be able to
use the film in the original mounts.

Been there, done that (with plastic stock, no less) for the Kodak RFS
3570 and the Epson 2480, still standing, put me back in, coach.
I do appreciate your consideration.
