I am did a clean install of XP Pro, I have just formatted the HD with NTFS, but when it boots up it comes up with the error, stop:0x000000ED (0x81798af8, 0xc0000185, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) any ideas?

Jay;
Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297185
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315403

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay
software which is not needed anyway.

Does it copy the setup files from the cd, or do you get the error somewhere around there? I ask this because the disk has to be formated in fat32 in order to accept the setup files. When setup begins and it ask you do you want to change to NTFS there is where you do it, not before

yes it copies over the files from the CD, there is no
option to format the system to FAT32, the only 2 options
are NTFS(Quick) or NTFS, at this point I format it with
NTFS, this takes about an hour because it is a 90 GB
drive, then once windows restarts this error appears

Sorry, it as to be done via FDISK. Do you know how to use FDISK?? My hardrive is 120 gigs and it doesn't even take half of an hour. Maybe that other post understands the error more that me. All I know is mine won't accept the files unless it is fat32 first. Your cd also seems different because I do not remember seeing a quick NTFS convert. :
