Unlinked fe/be broke joins in query after viewing

I have a split database. When I renamed the folder where the backend was
stored, then tried to view a query in design view, first...I wasn't able to
and received an error. So I realized that I needed to relink the frontend to
the backend, which I did. Then I went to the query design view and I could
see that the joins between the tables had broken.

Is this normal behavior? Also, some other items seemed broken too. I wasn't
able to run a report.

To get my frontend back I had to resplit the database. I didn't want to poke
around the entire db to see what else was wrong.

What's up with this. Is trying to view a join to an unlinked backend taboo?

Only if you save the query in the broken state.

After you try to open the query in design view, and realise that it is
broken, you must NOT save the changed query.
