Unknown User string in XP Pro Local Security Policy

Gilbert

I recently downloaded MBSA to check security on my XP Pro
machine and in the
Local Security Policy Under "access this computer from
the network" the
following
string was in the
user list that wasn't there before: *s-1-5-21-141001333-
1935655697-854245398-1007
..
This tool was part of a network domain but I had a
hardrive crash and need to
reinstall XP. The string also shows up under the "deny
logon locally" tab.
What
is this and what do I do about it......

This string (called a Security Identifier or SID) is
probably left over from when the machine was a member of
the domain. If it was never removed from the domain
gracefully, things like this can get left around.

You should be safe to delete it, the fact that it
doesn't "resolve" to a real name means that if it was
anything important, that anything important is busted
anyway...
