unknown (to me) user on my computer

I have suddenly observed that an unknown user has appeared on my laptop.
Can anyone tell me if this is a legitimate user: ASP.net Machine...A,
Limited Account, Password protected ? No one, to my knowledge, asked to
have access to my computer.

Just *appeared* or just *noticed by you*?

It is created when you installed tghe .NET Framework.

Did u check ur firewall and spyware.
Try opening device manager thru start>control pannel>system
If it says u don;t have enough privelages then I think its kind of torjan.
Use AVG Antispy ware from www.download.com and option as Delete on reboot

<sigh> - the ASP.net account is a legitimate mS account - it's created when
the .NET framework is installed.....
