unknown search engine in the browser

hi,
I used to have a MSN search column on the left of the IE
window. Now, idon`t know what happened it was replaced by
an unknown, unnamed search program and also i am afraid
that it is a source for the unlimited adult popups i am
getting. How do i revert back to my trusty MSN search
again. I have installed a popup stopper to stop the
popups. But the new search is messing the computer a lot.
Its installing some stuff in favourites, giving unrelated
serach answers etc......
