unknown programme

When i try to log off i get a message up saying that
there is an unresponsive programme which causes
difficulties in closing. I have tracked down the
programme sgtray.exe as a Veritas updater. i don't want
to delete without knowing what it is. There seems to be a
bunch of other "veritas" programs associated with it.
Any knowledge what this programme does and why it
suddenly is causing problems?

That is a (tape)backup program. (called "back up my pc" now, had other names
before). If you do backups to removable media then the program can be
benificial for you, if not uninstall it.
