Hi,

Most likely it is a part of your system recovery software, and is accessed
using some means as described by your system manufacturer.

If it is a Dell computer, it is the Dell Diagnostic Utility which the
telephone support people and technicians sometimes run to solve a problem.
It is accessible through the Windows Boot Menu.

Hi ya'll!

Very interesting thread, thanks. I did some research using Kelly's
suggestion. It seems that my SONY Vaio V505 did NOT come originaly with this
6 gigs (out of 55 total!!) of EISA partition. Apparently, it appeared when I
used the recovery DVD to perform a clean reinstall after a crash. That's when
I get the impression this 6 Gb partition was created, probably as part of the
recovery process.

Now here's my question: I could certainly use these 6 Gb for some more
"constructive" data storage! Since I have both the SONY rescue DVD and I
saved a clean copy of my C: drive (system) and do daily incremental backups
of my D: drive (data) using NORTON Ghost on an external hard drive, do I
really need this EISA partition anymore??? Would XP Pro SP2 boot if I get rid
of it?

If this is not a stupid idea, my next question would be: how to get rid of
it and "reassign" the 6 Gb to the D: drive ?

Thanks a bunch!
