unknown icon in task bar

Pretty new to using a 'newer computer' anywho most of this tech info is new
to me.but my question is i have this little icon that appears in my task
bar(that little area at the bottom of the screen) when i log off the
computer.It isnt there for very long and im wishing to know what it is. (The
icon looks like a mini version of the green 'restart option' when you are
given the choice to either log off, restart the computer or to put it on
stand by.) the icon also has a little red dot in the middle of it. can anyone
give me a little info on what this item is/used for why its there?

Try this:
right click on your taskbar and select properties, taskbar tab, select to
hide inactive icons (to activate the customize button), click on customize,
look for the icon and it's description in the list.

ahhh learn somthing new everyday......next to the icon it says connection
enabled..
