Hello, my parents system was HEAVILY infested with multiple forms of
malware. I ran multiple scanners/cleaners to no avail so I did the whole
FDISK and format thing with a 98 boot disk an then loaded XP Pro from
scratch. Ran into the MUP.SYS problem after installing their USB 2.0 card
and their printer. A BIOS reset fixed that. The data that I backed up from
their system was placed in my system and thoroughly scanned by AV and 3
spyware programs. The only software that I loaded was AVG antivirus,
Spysweeper, and their Epson printer software.
I left the computer there for the night. My mom decided that she NEEDED her
Office loaded and tried to do that only she loaded Windows XP Pro again on
top of itself. I checked it out and everything looked OK. The drivers were
all there, etc. I then pointed out the correct disk and went home.
She tried to load her Office 2003 Student/Teachers edition and got the
following.
Windows System Error
Unknown Hard Error
Failed to load psapi.dll
I came over to check it out. You put the disk in and the system almost locks
up as it is trying to read the CD. Then after a very long time you get that
error. I am having no luck finding this problem via Google. Any help would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
