I've been having problems with my computer going into
hibernation mode when I use Microsoft Money and a couple
of games I like to play. If I am in any of these programs
for more than just a few minutes, the computer goes to
sleep with no warning. My husband went in and adjusted
the settings to never go into sleep mode, but it is still
doing it. Now, after doing a little exploring, I've found
this file with a 443 extension files that I don't know
anything about. The files won't open, and the numbers all
begin with a group of zero's. The first one is
00000000.query. They are all dated March 2003, which is
approx. when this hibernation problem began. I don't know
if these things are causing some of my computer problems,
and I don't know if I should just delete the whole file.
Can someone out there give me a clue as to what I should
do here? Thanks in advance.

I have six *.query files in >>

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\Professional_32#0409

They have to do with the Help and Support page.

Wes can these be safely deleted?

Rock,

They'll probably just be recreated when you open Help and Support.

Try dragging them to the Desktop or somewhere and open H & S and see what
happens.

Yepper. They're recreated when you open H & S. I just tried it. ;-(

Here's something that may be of interest...

Clear the Help and Support Center session History
http://www.winxptutor.com/helpctrhistory.htm

I have a batch file for this.

HelpSessionHistorydat.bat
-----

cd C:\Documents and Settings\Wesley P. Vogel\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\HelpCtr
del /q HelpSessionHistory.dat

Ok thanks. I have 624 of them. Never knew they were there, don't look
in that directory much...lol.

624. Wow.

You try moving them?

I do not know how many 00000001.query type files one should have in...

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\Professional_32#0409
or
C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\Personal_32#0409
or
C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\AdvancedServer_32#0409

I can't find much info on this.

Okay, so that answers what these ext.files are, but I'm
still having trouble with my computer going into
hibernation while I'm entering data in Microsoft Money,
and when I'm trying to play Zuma, for instance. As for
using help and support, tried it when this problem first
started occurring. Didn't help. Stripped the computer
and reinstalled everything. Didn't help. After two years
of trying to figure out why sleep mode keeps happening,
well I'm at my wits end. If the experts at MS can't tell
me what is causing the problem, I guess I'll just have to
continue living with the problem until I can afford to
replace the computer.

Have a look at these settings...

Open Power Options Properties...
Start | Run | Type: powercfg.cpl | OK |

Power Schemes tab

Power Schemes: Set to Home/Office Desk

Settings for Home/Office Desk power scheme:

Turn off monitor: Set to NEVER

Turn off hard disks: Set to NEVER

System standby: Set to NEVER

Click: APPLY

Hibernate tab

If the Hibernate tab is unavailable, your computer does not support this
feature. Then skip this and Click: OK.

Other wise...

UNCheck: Enable hibernation

Click: APPLY

Click: OK

Read the manual for your monitor. Look for Power Save or Power Management
or similar.

Look at the power management settings in the BIOS. Look at something like
POWER MENU or similar.

They're all in:C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\Professional_32#0409

I just moved them now - will see. They only take up 1 MB, btw, and all
are dated the day SP2 was installed.

Good info, Kelly. But what I meant was that I couldn't find how many
*.query files one should have in
\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\***_32#0409

Yes, that is a bit much compared to my systems here that only have from one
to three at most, listed.
If you gather any other info, please post. :o)

Kelly,

Gotcha. I called a friend and he checked his
C:WINNT\PCHealth\HelpCtr\OfflineCache\Professional_32#0409 folder.

He had over 500 *.query files. His machine is a Gateway and Help and
Support is somehow linked to Gateway's HelpSpot program. So the extra 500
or so query files must be related to Gateway's Support. I would venture
that Dell, etc. have the same deal.

He deleted his 500 or so *.query files, opened Help and Support and those
*.query files were not recreated. He then restored them from his Recycle
bin. Hmm.

Ahh, I have a Gatweay too - so that's the reason.

Not necessarily, I have three in the house and this doesn't match up to
anywhere close (none to three max). Seems to be user specific not system.
