Try this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a
computer that is running Windows Vista"

That page offers two download options. Unless you know for sure
you have 64-bit Vista, use the 32-bit option.

Although only 'Outbox' is mentioned, it will enable removal of stuck
emails from any folder.

can you please help me with deleting a message in my inbox, "An unknown error
has occured" appears

Hi Gary that does not work for me. I also deleted the messages and they are
still in the windows mail screen yet can not be opened. When I try to
download the tool it says that is not the solution...

See www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

You need to update to Vista SP1 and that should fix the problem.

Witsguy, I don't see a detailed problem statement from you in this thread.
Do you get an error message in Windows Mail?
If so, right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.
If no error message, describe the exact problem in more detail.

Try running my WMUtil program and compact and repair the database and see if
that fixes it.

Gary,

I try to delete inbox messages and the error message says an unknown error
has occured. The message does not delete. I can not delete the messages in
Spam Fighter as well. Nothing seems to work.

If any messages can't be deleted, apply this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Although that article only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.
