Unknown error in Event Viewer (system)

Dave

Hi - Just checking my Event Viewer (bored!) and came across this error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10003
Date: 20/08/2004
Time: 12:58:54
User: N/A
Computer: DAVE
Description:
Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server using
DefaultLaunchPermssion. The server is:
{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable.

I'll be damned if I can figure it out, but it has been happening VERY
regularly over the last few days - In fact, since the 22/08 until today,
over 2500 times!

Any of you gurus out there have a clue what causes it, and how I can deal
with it (if, in fact, it needs to be dealt with!)?

NAV doesn't find anything, nor do Spybot S&D or AdAware.

TIA

Dave

Well, that stands for Distributed Communications (or components, depending
which geek you talk to). Fancy name for an over-the-wire protocol that some
software and MAINLY viruses use to pollute your life and that of all the
others on the network with you or even across the internet. There have been
some patches put out to thwart problems with it (read vulnerabilities) :).
I happened to be looking into something related the other day and ran across
this page.

Do at your own risk.
I would just make sure all Windows critical updates are applied, your
antivirus software is up to date, and run an occasional scan with something
like AdAware (www.lavasoft.de)
