Unique number to different items

Hey,
I've got another question for everyone that 100% stumped me. I've downloaded
the Inventory template and am attempting to tweak it to my own requirements.
I've got a form that shows the individual items of my database and how many
of those items I have in stock. Thats fine, what I want to do is, say I have
4 desktop pc's in my office. I look up the item "desktop pc" in my database
and sure enough it says 4 in the box. What I need to do is add a unique 6
digit numerical code to each of these "pc's" but still keep them under the
same item in the database.
I've found that I can assign them a code but then the database doesn't
recognise all the "pc" items as the same. Then when I look in the inventory
again I've for 4 individual records for the same item. This is way over my
head guys so would really appreciate some help. Thanks for your time!

Add a SerialNumber field (or some such) and enter the data in that
field.

That's very useful, if you move in the right circles, live in the right
place, or travel where French is spoken. It does not, however, answer or
expand on the post to which you responded, nor does it have anything to do
with the subject of this newsgroup, which is Microsoft Access database
software. This newsgroup, by the way, is an English language newsgroup. I
suspect there are some French-language newsgroups about Microsoft Access,
though, if you'd search down the list...
