uninstalling XP

I did a clean install of WinXP Home on a second computer. I have about 26 days left to activate windows. Because it is the second time, Microsoft will not activate windows. How can I uninstall XP and install WinMe or 98?

Hi David

If you 'clean' installed XP onto the 2nd PC, then you will have to reformat
the hard disk/partition on that 2nd PC and then re-install Win ME/98.

Of course, if you had uninstalled WinXP from the old PC and you had told
Microsoft that, Microsoft would have activated your new installation....

Will:

I tried to reformat the drive and a message came up about the volume in used
by programs.

Hi

If you tried to format the drive from within Windows, you will see that
error message. You will need boot your PC using a Win 9x Emergency Boot
Disk and format from the A: prompt. You can get the files for the EBD from:

www.bootdisk.com

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup
the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can
you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel

Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the

uninstall option to be available.
