Uninstalling XP and re-loading Window 98

I tried to upgrde to XP on a machine that was really not compatible. I need
to uninstall XP and use my recovery disk to re-load my old programs. I can
not get XP off my machine and when I try to use the recovery disk it's tells
me I am about to load two operating systems on my machine. Can someone walk
me through the steps that I need to do to get this machine back up and
running.
