My son tried to install Windows XP on his computer, using
the disk that came with our new computer, which has
already been installed on it. After the 30 day trial
period expired, the computer instructed him to register
the product. When he called to register it, he was told
it can't be registered because it is already registered
to another computer. Now his computer won't let him do
anything... it is stuck on this screen and he can't even
get to programs to uninstall this version of XP. Does
anyone have any advice for us? Thank you.

The disk to your new computer will not permit Windows XP
to activate on another computer. Option No.1 is to completely
reformat the drive and reinstall the old Windows operating
system. The second option is go to out and purchase a "Full Version"
of Windows XP and perform a "Repair Install", then activate it.

Disk

1. Delete the Windows XP partition.
2. Create a new partition.
3. Format the new partition.
4. Install your desired Operating System.

Hello
You will need to boot from the XP cd and then it will copy some files the
you will need to hit Enter the F8 to accept the license the you will see
where you can delete the partition that XP is installed on.

Greetings --

Id there any particular reason why you, as a parent, simply stood
by and allowed your son to attempt to pirate software?

The normal way to "uninstall" _any_ operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

However, if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to
backup the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS,
then all you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
