I have a used laptop and installed Windows XP from my Gateway Operating Disc,
it is only good for 30 days and wo'nt register by internet or phone help.
What steps do I take to uninstall Windows XP and then reload with Windows NT??

Greetings!

You can try two possible approachs:

1. If you still have the System Restore CD's that came with the laptop
computer; you can use these to restore your system back to NT (Assuming that
this was the original OS that came with the laptop).

2. If you do not have your laptops System Restore CD's; locate the harddrive
manufacture that your laptop computer is using and go to their website and
downlaod their harddrive utility to "zero write/low level format" your
laptops harddrive - then reinstall NT (Assuming that this is a OEM version of
NT)

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

If your laptop came with original restore CD's, you should first restore and
then update to the latest service packs. This way you can be assured the
drivers specific to your laptop are installed. If you do not have the
restore media follow the suggestion below.
You will need to do a clean install of Win NT. You will need either the NT
setup boot disks or bootable NT CD. The steps are essentially the same as
for XP. Follow the onscreen prompts during setup. Download the latest
service packs and burn to CD or other media before running setup. Apply the
Service Packs as soon as setup completes.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
