On 4/22, I used a registry cleaner (Registry Booster)...the next day, I
started having ntdll.dll errors with IE6 on just a few webpages (ex.
http://www.makeuptalk.com/forums), where IE6 would encounter a problem and
have to close. At the time, I didn't connect the registry cleaning with this
problem. I originally posted about the issue in the IE6 newsgroup, and was
advised to go to a HijackThis forum and have them help me look for spyware as
this would be the most likely cause of the error. So, I went to
techsupportforum.com, and posted there...two different individuals helped me
out. The first went through several different programs to search for spyware,
etc and everything came out clean. Unfortunately, as we found out later while
the second individual was helping me, I was advised to delete all my restore
points and make a new one in the process. We have tried just about everything
(IEFix, sfc /scannow, etc) and nothing is resolving the ntdll.dll error. It
seems that the registry cleaner must have changed something resulting in
this, but the "backup" registry it made can't be imported for some reason. In
any case, I was advised to reinstall IE6 with SP1, but I've tried to do that,
and the computer won't let me as it detects a "newer version." I was hoping
that if I uninstalled/reinstalled SP2, it would allow me to have the more
secure, updated IE6 without any ntdll.dll errors. However, I wanted to find
out if doing this would clear all of my programs and files from the hard
drive...
My OS is Windows XP Professional SP2. I do have one of the tech reports sent
to Microsoft saved, in case that would shed light on this situation.
Thanks!
