Uninstalling/Reinstalling SP2 and possible consequences

This may seem like a stupid question but will uninstalling and reinstalling
SP2 cause files on my hard drive to be erased? For example, will I still have
all the files located in My Documents available after the reinstallation and
will other installed programs need to be reinstalled? I'm going to make a
backup of my files of course, but I just want to know if there is a large
chance that this could happen...
Thanks!

On 4/22, I used a registry cleaner (Registry Booster)...the next day, I
started having ntdll.dll errors with IE6 on just a few webpages (ex.
http://www.makeuptalk.com/forums), where IE6 would encounter a problem and
have to close. At the time, I didn't connect the registry cleaning with this
problem. I originally posted about the issue in the IE6 newsgroup, and was
advised to go to a HijackThis forum and have them help me look for spyware as
this would be the most likely cause of the error. So, I went to
techsupportforum.com, and posted there...two different individuals helped me
out. The first went through several different programs to search for spyware,
etc and everything came out clean. Unfortunately, as we found out later while
the second individual was helping me, I was advised to delete all my restore
points and make a new one in the process. We have tried just about everything
(IEFix, sfc /scannow, etc) and nothing is resolving the ntdll.dll error. It
seems that the registry cleaner must have changed something resulting in
this, but the "backup" registry it made can't be imported for some reason. In
any case, I was advised to reinstall IE6 with SP1, but I've tried to do that,
and the computer won't let me as it detects a "newer version." I was hoping
that if I uninstalled/reinstalled SP2, it would allow me to have the more
secure, updated IE6 without any ntdll.dll errors. However, I wanted to find
out if doing this would clear all of my programs and files from the hard
drive...

My OS is Windows XP Professional SP2. I do have one of the tech reports sent
to Microsoft saved, in case that would shed light on this situation.

Thanks!

I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you...I did follow the instructions
for the XP Repair install, but the problem still persists...And yes, never
again will I be using a registry cleaner...whatever good they do (if any)
can't possibly outweigh all the problems I'm having now. Any ideas on what
else I might try to fix this ntdll.dll error? btw, I found another website
IE6 crashes on (same error): eharlequin.com...could there be something on
these particular pages that causes IE6/ntdll.dll to crash?
Thanks again for all your help!

After the repair you ran winupdate?
What is the *exact* error msg and when *exactly* does the problem occur
Is there any further info shown in Event logs?

I did run winupdate, so my comp should be up-to-date with everything. The
error signature follows:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00011430

The Events log basically shows the same information, with the event
classified as "1000." If I click into "Properties," the details are

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00011430.

IE6 doesn't crash on ALL webpages, just on specific ones. For example, it
crashes on http://eharlequin.com and http://www.makeuptalk.com/forums. The
funny thing is it doesn't crash on http://www.makeuptalk.com...I saved the
technical report that is sent to Microsoft, in case that would provide you
with further insight. If you would like, I can post that as well. Thanks for
your help! :)
