I need to uninstall a Broadcom Bluetooth program because I believe it's
causing some instability to my system (XP). Unfortunately System Restore
doesn't work and, when I put the uninstall disc in my machine, the computers
slows to a crawl and I can't execute the uninstall icon.

Any suggestions on how I can find out what programs have been installed and
uninstall tehm manually?

1. Try uninstalling the program in Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here.

2. If that doesn't work, I've had some really good results with the Revo
uninstaller program (free):
