Uninstalling messenger

Could anyone remind me how to uninstall messenger? I went through hell last
time and in the end it took a line and a half of gobbledigook at the command
line to get rid of it. Now I've just installed Service Pack 2 and lo and
behold if messenger hasn't popped it's all too perky head up again.

(I remember, at the time, a MVP assured me that Microsoft were aware of the
absurdity of the situation and were addressing the problem. Clearly, they
haven't.)

To disable "Windows Messenger":

Open "Windows Messenger" and from the Toolbar select
Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck:

"Run this program when Windows starts" and
"Allow this program to run in the background", then
click OK.

Next, open Outlook Express and from the Toolbar select
Tools > Options and under the General tab uncheck
"Automatically log on to Windows Messenger" and click
APPLY.

Alternatives:

or
