uninstalling hot fix q811493

I am trying to uninstall hot fix q811493 as it seems to
be slowing down my computer. However, when I click on it
in the add/remove programs window, there is no remove
button to click on and there doesn't seem to be anyway to
get rid of it. Is there some secret to removing this
program that I am not aware of?

I believe that the hot fix is causing problems, however,
the problem is that I can't uninstall it from my computer.

Carey, some of wonder why you even bother to answer posts. You are
frequently not very "valuable" (forget about "most"). Do you need "MVP" on
your resume that badly? You are making all MVP's look bad. Are you a
person, or just an ill-programmed machine?

If you installed Q811493 after May 28, 2003, this update is most likely not the
cause of your problem. Take a look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;811493

If you installed Q811493 before this date, install the updated version on top
of the old version.

I am trying to uninstall hot fix q811493 as it seems to

get rid of it.

It installs only three files - ntoskrnl.exe and either ntkrnlpa.exe or
ntkrnlma.exe (depending on whether it is a single or dual CPU).

You can find the original files in
windows\syste32\drivers\i386\drivers.cab or in sp1.cab if Sp1 was
installed.

Open up that cab and extract the files concerned - then search for them
and replace (in windows\system32 but if there are copies in the
drivers\i386; or in windows\drivercache or in windows\system32\dllcache,
replace those first, in that order). Rename the old ones in system32
before copying in the replacements. Then reboot.
