Uninstalled Office 2007 Installed Office 2003 Outlook Issues with

I had a machine running office 2007. User could not get used to new
interface and I was requested to put the old version of office back on the
machine.

Office 2003 Standard Edition with SP2 and all updates installed

I uninstalled office 2007, rebooted and installed office 2003. Prior to
uninstalling Office 2007 I exported the email info to a PST file for backup
purposes. When I opened outlook it seemed to migrate the data from the old
PST file and settings and stuff. I noticed that the PST was stored locally.
I tried importing data from one of the other PST files I had, but it errored
out saying object not found or something like that. I then attempted open
one of the other PST files and it would not allow me to open them, killed
outlook as well (when it asks you if you want to send the error report to
Microsoft). I ran detect and repair to no avail. I could get it to open PST
files by renaming them to outlook.pst and putting them in place of the pst
file it had been looking at. This however created a phantom personal folders
file. I read that I should delete the profile, which I did. It now errors
out when I attempt to create a new profile. It gave me an error saying
"There was an error locating one of the items needed to complete this
operation. It might have been deleted. If you close the control panel mail
applet, when you open it again, the new profile is there. Then when I go to
data files to add a data file for the profile to use, the only button
available is Add... and when I click it, it gives me no options of files to
add and no further recourse. Please help.

TIA

Your description is too complicated to understand what exactly you did.
However, you should never use Export to do a backup; just copy the file
or use the Outlook backup tool. Also, you should never Import a PST
file; just open the file with Outlook, and drag-and-drop items you need
to merge it with another PST file.

If you still have the original PST file from 2007, just open it with
2003 and you should be fine.

Dear Pat

My problem is the same as what Roundy is having...My post is "Outlook 2003
can't open *.pst".....

I saw your post below, but you did not mention that you used Export and
Import. It is these two Outlook functions that often cause big problems.

No, I do not use Import/Export, I just want to be able to open the .pst
files, that's all...

But Roundy did, so you do NOT have "the same [problem] as what Roundy is
having", so you should post in a new thread.

I have the same problem. - Uninstalled 2007 and installed 2003. Now I can't
create a new profile. Comes up with the error "There was an error locating
one of the items needed to complete this operation. It might have been
deleted."

I checked on this message and MS stated it had to do with WinFAX Pro. It is
not installed on the PC tho.

Anyone got a solution for this one.

I'm having the same issue. HP laptop came with trial "25" use of Office 2007.

We have a license for Office 2003, so I uninstalled 2007 and installed 2003.

I can NOT open Outlook now, it says I haven't specified where my files
should go.

I go to Control Panel - Mail - Data Files - ADD (the only option available)
Then the next window says Types of Storage, there is Nothing there, I can't
create anything either.

Oh Joy!
